About IBM DB2
DB2 is a family of commercial relational database management systems developed by IBM corporation. DB2 provides maximum failure resistance, scalability, powerful access rights management mechanisms, extensive backup and recovery functionality. Integrated compatibility mechanisms simplify migration to DB2 from other database types (Oracle primarily). DB2 supports user-defined data types, BLOBS and CLOBS objects, user-defined functions, triggers and relational extenders.
IBM offers four DB2 modifications for various software platforms: for widespread platforms (Linux, UNIX, Windows, Solaris, Mac OS X), for IBM proprietary platforms (z/OS, OS/390, z/VM, z/VSE) and a dedicated DB2 version for IBM i platform. Besides commercial versions of DB2, IBM offers free DB2 Express-C, featuring commercial-grade functionality with some limitations.
